Series: Printed Violation

This series engages the viewer in addressing sexist views, crime, violence, oppression, and injustice that women face worldwide, regardless of their age, race, culture, education, and socio-economic backgrounds.

Each woman represents one or more of the many violations women suffer in their lifetime.

The White
The women are depicted in white, shifting the focus from their physical traits, race, and culture to the fact that they are women. White is also associated with purity, a term with which women in many cultures are forced to identify and live by.

The Black
The black paint and ribbon symbolize how the very same cultures that hold women hostage to purity standards completely disregard the pain and suffering that our society inflicts upon them.

The Porcelain Perfection
The women in the series are portrayed as delicate porcelain figures, symbolizing how our patriarchal society regards the female sex as fragile and weak.

The Medical Gauze
The clothing has been draped using white medical gauze to symbolize the wrapping of women’s wounds that society is adamant about concealing, instead of crusading against the injustice and stopping these violent crimes at their source.

The wardrobe displays clothes from daily situations in women’s lives to portray that these problems aren’t reserved solely for the poor and third-world countries. They affect women from all financial backgrounds and walks of life.

Some of the crimes, violations, and issues represented include:

- Force
- Rape
- Female Genital Mutilation
- Marital Rape
- Female Infanticide
- Laws Against Pro-Choice for Women’s Reproductive Health
- Domestic Abuse
- Freedom of Speech and Independence
- Disempowering Women
- Progress and Education
- Equal Pay and Opportunities
- Freedom
- Choices
- Unrealistic Standards of Beauty
- Censorship
- Objectification
- Molestation
- Sexual Assault
- Sexual Harassment
- Sexual Abuse

Every single woman will be a victim of one or more of these violations in her lifetime. We want these images to initiate the conversation that society avoids. We hope they will inspire people to act against injustice, help victims receive assistance, and educate men and women so that we can prevent these problems from occurring in the future. Each image will hold a different truth for each viewer, reflecting their own experiences.

The purpose of these images is to conceptually draw attention to problems by creating a strong visual imprint that people will remember for years to come, fostering constant awareness of the existence of these problems that require our help and attention.
